Windows® 7 End of Life Support

How to ease the pain of migrating to Windows 10

Microsoft® Windows 7 operating system will be ending its extended support as of January 14, 2020. Having a plan of action can reduce or prevent security risks, downtime and future problems for your home or business. Knowing how to keep your PC and network safe is part of helping you keep your business up and running.

Below are some examples of how without the Microsoft Window 7 extended support, you could be putting your business or personal computers at risk for viruses and hacking:

  • If you use QuickBooks®, Sage® or Lacerte® software, it may not be able to be updated if you are not using a secured version of Windows.
  • Medical Software (i.e EZ Dental®, Dentrix®, e-Prescribe®) will stop working and updating because they will require you to protect patient data.
  • Credit Card Processing (i.e.®, Square®, Clover®, and others) will not process credit cards if the system isn’t updated and secure.
  • Online banking, and email providers (i.e. Gmail® and Yahoo®) will not function correctly or log in. Security certificates are essential to website authenticity and proving information that it’s operated by its true owners.
  • Antivirus and Malware software will not work effectively on Window 7 operating system leaving potential “holes” that can allow hackers to access your system with viruses that can steal vital company data and erase important files and folders.Visiting an unprotected website can infect your computer with ransomware. Ransomware locks you out of everything on your PC, including personal photos and documents.
  • Support for Internet Explorer® on a Windows 7 device will also be discontinued effective January 14, 2020.
